~TAMAL DODGE, ERYT
YOGACO DIRECTOR AND FOUNDER
I am a Yoga Alliance registered teacher, certified through
Tamal Yoga School, successfully completing 200 hours of accredited training. I am currently earning my 500 hour training certificate at
Yoga At The Village.
But my story doesn't begin there.
I began practicing yoga in 1998 when, quite reluctantly, I took a yoga class at my gym because my regular
aerobics class had been canceled. I’d always thought yoga was something for
old ladies and hippies, but I discovered in that one class that yoga was much
more than mere stretching. It was the toughest work out I’d ever experienced,
and I quickly became enamored with the physical aspect and started attending
yoga classes regularly.
Eventually, I purchased a
book called Classic Yoga for Fitness & Relaxation by Vimla Lalvani. It consisted
mostly of various hatha poses, but also contained tidbits of yogic philosophy,
such as adopting a vegetarian diet. Then, quite by accident while relaxing in
Savasana, I was overcome with the realization that there was much more to yoga than
just the postures. I then started reading more about yoga, such as Steven
Cope’s Yoga and the Search for the True Self and Autobiography of a Yogi by
Paramahansa Yogananda in which yogic philosophies were explored in depth.
I
spent several more years attending classes, reading books, and going on yoga retreats. Over the years, I’ve gone through phases
where I’ve been very dedicated to my practice and periods of complete
abandonment of it in favor of more material pursuits. But I have always come
back to yoga in search of uncovering my True Self and living a spiritually
motivated life.
Luckily, my path to enlightenment lead me to a Power Yoga class taught by Tamal Dodge, founder of
YogaCo. After studying with him for a year, I enrolled in his Teacher Training course where my knowledge of yoga and yoga philosophy increased exponentially.
But my training will never be "complete," for yoga is a journey. A long, winding road that ultimately leads to a state of bliss we yogis call Samadhi. Please join me as we travel this path together, discovering our True Selves along the way.
